Tutor Terms
Last updated: 24.10.2026
1. Eligibility and identity documents
To teach on FluentAI you apply with a short form, accept these terms, and, once our team approves the application, upload a passport or national ID card and a recent proof of address. You must declare your proficiency in each language you teach accurately.
Your documents are reviewed by our own team, not by an outside identity-verification service. We keep them in private storage that only our review team can open, use them only to confirm who you are, and delete them when you delete your account.
We do not accept applications from people who live in, apply from, or use an email address on the national domain of Russia, Belarus, Iran, North Korea, Syria or Cuba.
2. Independent contractor
You are an independent contractor, not an employee. You are responsible for your own equipment, teaching credentials, expenses and any legal obligations that arise from your earnings. Nothing in these terms creates an employment relationship.
3. Prices and the platform fee
You set the price of a 60-minute lesson in credits, between 10 and 40 credits. Learners can book 30, 45 or 60 minutes; 30 and 45 minutes cost that price pro-rated and rounded up to a whole credit.
The platform fee is 15% of the lesson price and your share is 85%. Your share is recorded in US dollars at 1 credit = $1.00.
4. Bookings
When a learner books you, the lesson's credits are taken from their balance and held. You accept or decline each request. A request you haven't accepted 1 hour before the start expires. If you decline or a request expires, the learner gets every credit back.
5. Lessons and the video room
Every confirmed lesson has its own video room, opened from the lesson's page from 10 minutes before the start. Lessons currently run on Jitsi Meet (meet.jit.si) in a new browser tab; the page names the service for each lesson. meet.jit.si may ask the first person in the room to sign in, for example with a Google or GitHub account, before the meeting can start, so please join a few minutes early.
After the lesson, mark it completed on its page.
6. Earnings
Your 85% is recorded in your earnings when you mark a lesson completed, when you mark a learner as absent, when a learner cancels less than 12 hours before the start (85% of the half the learner does not get back), and when a confirmed lesson is settled automatically as given (see section 8).
An earning becomes available to request 7 days after the lesson, once the window for reporting a problem has closed. Earnings on a lesson under review are held until our team decides.
7. Payouts
You request a payout of your available earnings, at least $10.00, from your Earnings page, and tell us where to send it. Our team pays each request by hand, by bank transfer to the account you give, and marks it paid with the transfer reference. We do not promise a payout date or schedule.
If a payout can't be made, for example because the account details are wrong, we return the amount to your available balance and tell you why.
8. Cancellations and no-shows
A learner who cancels a confirmed lesson 12 hours or more before the start, or a request you haven't accepted yet, gets every credit back. A learner who cancels less than 12 hours before the start gets half the credits back, rounded down, and you earn on the other half.
If you decline or cancel, the learner gets every credit back. Repeated cancellations can lead to removal from the catalogue.
If you haven't opened the video room 15 minutes after the start, the learner can report it and gets every credit back at once. If the learner hasn't joined 15 minutes after the start and you have opened the room, you can mark them as absent and the lesson counts as given.
A confirmed lesson that nobody closes is settled 48 hours after its end: it counts as given if you opened the video room, and the learner is refunded in full if you did not.
9. Conduct
You agree to teach each lesson in the language and topic the learner chose, to be patient and respectful, not to take learners or payments off the platform, to keep learners' information confidential, and not to record a lesson without the learner's consent.
10. Reviews
A learner can leave a review only after a completed lesson. Star ratings are used by our team for quality review and are not shown on your public profile; a learner's written review may appear there.
11. Language credentials
You declare your level in each language as native, fluent or professional. A professional level should be backed by a teaching qualification, which our team may ask to see. Misrepresenting your level is grounds for removal.
12. Reported problems
A learner can report a problem with a lesson within 7 days. The lesson is then under review and your earning for it is held. Our team either returns the learner's credits, in which case your earning for that lesson is reversed, or closes the report and the lesson counts as completed. Both of you see the decision on the lesson's page.
13. Suspension and removal
We may suspend or remove a tutor for failed identity checks, repeated cancellations or no-shows, conduct violations or fraud. Earnings recorded for lessons you gave remain owed to you and are paid under section 7; lessons under review are decided first.
14. Your earnings and the law
You are responsible for declaring your earnings wherever the law of your country requires it.
15. Changes to these terms
We announce material changes on this page at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to teach after that date means you accept them.
